Preamble
"We, the members of the Kabale University Surgical Society, united by a common dedication to the advancement of surgical knowledge and practice, establish this society to promote excellence in the field of surgery through education, research, and mentorship."

Our Objectives
As outlined in Article 3 of the Constitution, the objectives of the Society are:
The Secretariat
The Secretariat of the Society shall be located at the Department of Surgery, Kabale University School of Medicine, Kabale, Uganda.
Membership Categories
As outlined in Chapter Two of the Constitution, the Society recognizes four categories of membership:

| Corporate membership | 0.00 UGX | 0.00 UGX | This shall be open to any Surgeon, organization, institution or group of persons wishing to donate to KUSS and to take part in the activities of KUSS provided those activities have been specified by the executive. The membership lasts for 12 months after the donation was made |
| Full member | 15000.00 UGX | 5000.00 UGX | These shall be registered medical students (MBChB) at Kabale University who have completed the appropriate, necessary documentation and paid the once-off membership fee. |
| Honorary members | 30000.00 UGX | 10000.00 UGX | Registered medical practitioners either practicing surgery or are in surgical training. This may include those who were a part of the Organization and have now graduated |
Member Rights & Obligations
All members have the right to attend all society functions, vote in elections, access society resources, and participate in mentorship programs. Members are obligated to abide by the constitution, pay subscription fees, uphold the society's reputation, and actively participate in society activities.
Organizational Structure
As per Chapter Three of the Constitution, the Society is governed by the following structures:
The Board of Governors
The supreme governing body of the Society, responsible for policy-making and strategic direction. Composed of the Patron, University Administration representative, Student Representative, and the Executive Chairperson.
The Executive Committee
The day-to-day management body of the Society, elected annually at the AGM. Composed of five key officers:
- Chairperson: Presides over all meetings and represents the Society.
- Vice Chairperson: Assists the Chairperson and oversees committees.
- General Secretary: Handles correspondence, records, and communications.
- Treasurer: Manages all finances and prepares financial reports.
- Publicity Secretary: Handles media, communications, and event promotion.
Standing Committees
Three specialized committees that drive the core activities of the Society:
- Education Committee: Organizes seminars, workshops, and skills sessions.
- Research Committee: Coordinates journal club, research projects, and publications.
- Mentorship & Advocacy Committee: Manages mentorship programs and global surgery advocacy.
Meetings
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Held once per academic year. All members attend. Elections are conducted, reports are presented, and major decisions are made.
Executive Meetings
Held at least once per month. The Executive Committee discusses operational matters and prepares for larger meetings.
Emergency General Meeting (EGM)
Convened by the Chairperson or upon request by two-thirds of the Executive when urgent matters arise.
The KUSS Oath
As stated in Appendix II of the Constitution, every member takes the following oath upon joining:
"I, _______________________, being admitted into the Kabale University Surgical Society, do solemnly swear that I will uphold the Constitution of this Society, dedicate myself to the pursuit of surgical excellence, respect my colleagues and mentors, and strive always to go Supra et Ultra — Above and Beyond — in all my endeavors.

My name is Kwikiriza Rhonah I'm the outgoing Vice Chairperson of Kabale University Surgical Society and one of the Founding members of the society as a general secretary. I have passion and strong interest in surgery because of the clinical precision, evidence-based decision making, and the responsibility of improving patient outcomes through operative care. It represents the ultimate intersection of science, art, and empathy and is an incredibly rewarding field as well.

Dr Mugarura Robert Rotarian, SeniorLecturer, Urologist, Caring Husband, and Committed Christian Born in a family of Eight children, Dr. Mugarura Robert's passion for medicine was sparked early from home during his S6 vacation. He cared for his grandfather, making regular journeys from Mbarara to Mulago Hospital in Kampala for cancer treatment and stoma care. These experiences inspired him to pursue a career in surgery. He earned his Bachelorof Medicine and Bachelorof Surgery (MBChB) from Mbarara University of Science and Technology in 2006. He completed a Master of Medicine (MMed) in General Surgery in 2013 from the same university and earned an MBA from Uganda Christian University (UCU) Bishop Barham University College in 2022. In 2025, he fulfilled a long-held ambition by obtaining a Fellowship in Urology from the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) in Bujumbura, Burundi. Dr. Mugarura describes Kisiizi Hospital in the hilis of Rukungiri as the place that shaped him most. Starting as an intern in 2007, he progressed through roles as Medical Officer and Surgeon until 2017. He fondiy calls it home and credits the institution with instilling in him a deep sense of humble service. He has over 10 academic and research publications. Asoft-spoken and dedicated clinician, Dr. Mugarura is known for his unwavering commitment responding to emergencies regardless of time, weekends, or holidays. He is a strong champion of minimally invasive surgery (Laparoscopy), endoscopy and safe surgical practices in Kigezi region. Since 2O19, he has served as Sernior Lecturer and Head of Department at Kabale University School of Medicine, shaping the next generation of doctors in Uganda and beyond. He is also the Patron of the Kabale University Surgical Society (KUSS). He currently serves as President of the Rotary Club of Kabale City. Outside medicine, he is an activeguitarist in his church and a member of the Fathers' Union. Dr. Mugarura continues to blend clinical excellence, academic leadership, and compassionate service in all his endeavors. Spiritually correct
